Why Retailers Need to Embrace Mobile Internet in Stores

It's natural that some retailers will feel threatened by the growing use of mobile in store, but the answer is to embrace this trend and use it to enhance the in-store experience.
Retailers can do this by providing apps and mobile optimised sites, but also by offering wi-fi to customers.
According to an On Device Research (ODR) survey of mobile users, 60% of respondents have used the mobile internet while in stores, while 78% would use free wi-fi in stores if offered it.

In what it’s calling a “digital refresh,” airline JetBlue Airways today launched newly redesigned e-commerce and m-commerce sites, aiming to make it easier for travelers to book a flight on the go and find information such as maps to airports and driving conditions. JetBlue also today debuted an iPhone app that matches the design scheme of the sites while catering to the needs of highly loyal customers.

The days of siloed email messaging are over. Or at least they should be, says Dave Lewis, CMO of Message Systems. Only when there is message convergence, he says, can real engagement and conversion happen.
“Message convergence is an engagement strategy that accommodates the changes in [user] behavior relative to the different channels so you can speak to the [user] in the most relevant place with the most relevant message,” Lewis said.

While most companies are all over Facebook and Twitter, CMOs confess they are at sixes and sevens with their digital marketing strategy. The Boston Consulting Group reports that 77% aren’t sure where best to reach their customers, a critical component of any digital strategy. And 55% say they have only “minimal or informal metrics to measure the impact and return on investment of digital marketing efforts.”
