Just last week, the “Going Green” trend was connected by Brian Williams with Tube-Free Toilet Paper. http://www.hulu.com/watch/188667/nbc-nightly-news-with-brian-williams-tubeless-toilet-paper-touted-as-way-to-go-green?

The move by Packaged goods companies to reduce costs is not new. Back in 2008 Time Magazine cited that consumer product packaging was being shrunk to prevent price increases in this economic downturn. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1818761,00.html
A recent example was the removal of 4 cookies from Oreo’s Double Stuff.
During the past few weeks, I’ve been excited to see the continued trend of many online marketers to reduce costs and promote “Green” initiatives in a smart way. The following are just a few companies that are using or have used smart marketing strategies to drive online billing sing ups.
1. Verizon:Great Paperless Escape Sweepstakes
In Progress: By “Escaping Paper” and signing up for Paperless Billing and Auto Bill Pay, you enter to Green prizes and $10K. I also love Verizon’s play on “Join the Network” which is written as “Join the Network Effect. Go Paperless.”

2. AT&T: A “Simplify Your Life” Video Contest.
In Progress: This contest promotes all the benefits of Paperless Billing, Online Account Management and Auto Pay while integrating a chance for you to make a homemade video showing how AT&T Online Services simplify your life. Even better, customers can vote on the video award winners with a grand prize of $20K.
3. Sovereign Bank: Green Donations
In 2007, Sovereign Bank donated $1 to the National Arbor Day foundation for each new e-bill activation.
Let me know of any “Green Marketing” Campaigns that should be added to this list.
