| A study by Sharpe Partners revealed that 89% of adult Internet users in America share content with others via email. The recently released study on viral marketing also found that 63% of the respondents share content at least once a week and as many as 75% of the respondents forward this content to up to six other recipients |

| THERE IS NO MORE CONVINCING argument for reading an e-mail than a friend's recommendation. If a friend (or colleague) has taken the time to forward something to you, it is likely to be relevant and you are somewhat beholden to read and respond. So make it as easy as possible for friends to forward your e-mail. |

The most successful super-distribution email campaigns (often called "viral marketing") offer something so unique that the message grabs your attention and impresses you so mightily that you can't help sharing it with friends and colleagues. That's what happened last week when we received an email from office.com.
The email (offering two free "astronaut" pens if we purchased $30 in office supplies from the site) included a 30-second ad, with streaming video and audio. (We were able to view and listen to it without a software plug-in because our computers are appropriately equipped.) The email uses RadicalMail's streaming, multimedia technology, which is not only avant-garde to the eyes and ears, but also important to one-to-one marketers: It treats email as a truly interactive platform. |

| I admit it. The term "viral marketing" is offensive. Call yourself a Viral Marketer and people will take two steps back. I would. "Do they have a vaccine for that yet?" you wonder. A sinister thing, the simple virus is fraught with doom, not quite dead yet not fully alive, it exists in that nether genre somewhere between disaster movies and horror flicks. |
